Do I need a structural Engineer?
You will need a Strucutral Engineer if you intend to alter you house’s structure in any way, if you’re not sure contact us for a free site visit.
What do I need for a Building Control Submission?
You will need as a minimum a drawing and a set of calculations to show the alterations result in a stable structure.
Do I need an Architect?
for smaller alterations i.e. removing a wall, no; but for larger alterations where planning permission is required, then it’s best to engage one. An Architect can provide a great service to assess your project and provide you with the best outcomes.
How much space can i open up?
Almost anything is possible; upto 7m and more is possible, but with larger lengths, increased cost arise to transfer the loads over the original foundation length.
3-4 m can be managed locally with leaving in blockwork nibs or smaller steel columns.

When do I need to engage with a Strucutural Engineer
If it’s a small alteration then we can help you straight away with a set of drawings and calculations from site measurements.
If it’s a larger development then once you have your architects drawings and planning permission we can help out.
